Texas-based physician Dr. James Summa spent 16 years as an interventional radiologist at White Rock Radiology. Interested in flying radio-controlled airplanes in his free time, Dr. James Summa holds membership in the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA), the world’s premier model aviation organization with more than 175,000 members.
In the United States, the AMA serves as the chartering organization for over 2,500 model airplane clubs and is the sanctioning organization for in excess of 2,000 events across the nation. In addition, the organization serves as a liaison between model aviation enthusiasts and the Federal Communications Commission, Federal Aviation Administration, and other federal agencies, as well as works with local and municipal agencies.
By becoming a member, individuals gain access to sanctioned events and support in securing and retaining flying fields. To promote interest in model aviation among young people, the AMA offers free youth memberships to individuals through the age of 19.
